Trouble installing SP1

Jayby86

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

When I try to install the SP1 update, I get as far as the installer, and then when it comes to select my HD to install, it comes up with this message:

You cannot install Office 2008 SP1 Update (12.1.0) on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume.

Why is this? I did install Office onto my HD!

I'm a new Mac user so bear with me if I'm making a terrible newbie mistake!

Take heart, it's a problem with the installer. See this page for help with
this error.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried the method on that website and I'm still getting the same error message!

Just ran AutoUpdate which said there was no update. This prompted me to check the software version in Word and it says Version: 12.1.0 (080409)

I never installed SP1, so unless it came on my new Office disk I dunno how it got there!!

I have the same problem trying to update my version of Microsoft Office 12.1.0 to the new version 12.1.1 . I've tried moving the new 12.1.1 updater from the virtual disk onto the desktop and running it from there (as suggested), but that doesn't work either. Any further suggestions or ideas?

I'm having the same problem, and this fix doesn't work for me. I
reinstalled Office completely, in order to get the new update to
install, and now I can't even get the SP1 update to install (which
installed fine before).

Any ideas? Is there a pref file or a .bom file that needs to be removed?

It's probably due to some modified file on your computer. See these 10 steps
to install:
