trouble installing updates

I am having difficulty installing a service pack to
office xp professional. my laptop keeps searching for a
network connections in order to install updates.
Unfortunately, the company where i used to work went
bankrupt and therefore i don't have access to any
network. what is the solutions to my problem if any?

I am unable to use any of my applications; word excel
succesfully. system keeps searching for a reinstall and
it takes forever. please help.
