trouble installing

I am having problems getting the microsoft office 2004 for mac student
edition to install on my macbook pro. I have removed all office
components from the 30 free trial using the "remove office" feature,
and have secured my empty trash. I selected to install using the
"Office Setup Assistant", entered my correct password, accepted the
license agreement, and selected the default installation package. I am
the only user on my computer. However, office has been "installing"
for almost two hours. The loading bar is moving, but where it says
"Items remaining to be installed" and "Installing:" there is nothing.
I have stopped installation and tried it again, but there is no change.
I have forced the program to quit, but it does not say that the
program is "not responding". The only other thing that might have been
a problem was the office trial; i first tried installing my software
without removing the trial, but have since stopped installation,
removed those components, and started the installation over. Is this a
problem with the software i purchased? Please let me know if anyone
has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate them!

Hm, it's kind of hard to tell what's not working the way it should. The
trial version is known to cause a few problems, but not the ones you are
describing. Here's what I would try if I were you: run Remove Office again
and make sure every component of Office gets removed. Then perform a simple
install of Office, i.e. drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder from your disc
into the Applications folder. There might be a problem with the installer,
but as I've said, I can't say for sure, so I'm only guessing.
