Trouble opening excel files

Can anyone tell me why I can not open my excel files? Excel starts but not
the file so I have to go to Open and find the folder and then it is able to
open. I have updated, re-installed etc etc etc still nothing...
BTW I use the 2003 version.

I will appreciate any attempt to help me :)
