I just purchased a MacBook and Mac:Office 08. (Student)

I'm having a lot of trouble opening Word documents that are being emailed to me. How can I fix this...I have tried process this site instructs, i.e. click "enable" "all documents" but still can't open, pop-up says word document is in use or not a vail work document. But I can open tis same document on my PC using Word 07 so I know it's valid. HELP

I tend to believe this is something that relates to the file structure of
Office 2007/2008 documents.

Do you have StuffIt set to automatically expand zipped/stuffed attachments?
If so it's dissecting your received .---x files & rendering a hollow shell
(plus an additional folder of needed bits). You'll need to turn that feature
off in StuffIt or email software preferences if I'm right. In which case...

The file should still open if you double-click the icon in a Finder window,
*rather than* if you attempt to open it from Word's File> Open dialog. Save
As to a different location to create a complete file.

And just to clarify, you aren't opening the same file on a PC, you're
opening a *copy* of the same file:)... that's why it "works".
