Trouble restoring a .pst file

I backed up my outlook mailbox, which is quite large, to a .pst file on a new
external disk drive.

I now can't retrieve the archived email. I walked through the basic help
file in Outlook and nothing happens.

I also tried to open the .pst file to individually pull items, and I get a
"Unable to display the folder. The file could not be accessed. There is not
enough space on the disk.

Any suggestions on how I can make this work. Is it possible that the file is
too big?

And how and from where are you trying to "open" the pst file?

An Archive is different to a backup; are you trying to open the archive or
the backup?
And how did you create this backup?

The size of the data file & version of OL?
