Trouble saving a 2003 Project file when adding dependency; open er

[Befuddled Project user]

When working in 2003 Project file after linking tasks or adding dependencies,
I receive a file cannot be opened error and am unable to save the changes.

Error is: The file cannot be opened; check that the filename and path are
correct

This file is not exceedingly large less than 856K, there are 405 tasks and
subtasks
I have tried saving as an MPX format and reopening but it didn't help.

What can I do to eliminate this error?

Thank you, this worked. I used the:
Method 2 - Save the file in the Microsoft Project Database format option.

It seems I had bloat or fragmented files. I appreciate your taking the time
to assist.
