trouble saving word documents in pdf form

Recently I've been having some trouble converting Word documents to
PDF (I'm using Word 2008 for Mac, version 12.1.5). When I try to save
a multi-page Word document as a PDF, the result is two separate
PDFs...the first page of my Word document is cut off and saved
separately from the remainder of the document. Is this a known
problem, and is anyone aware of a solution? Thanks!

FYI, the current version of Word (I think) is 12.2.1; however, I do not
know if what you see was a bug in 12.1.5.

So, you are doing File/Print, hitting the PDF button, and then the
computer is actually prompting you twice for two different file names?
If not, exactly what process are you doing?

Yes, it's a known bug.

Generally, it is caused by "any change to the page properties" by a section
break. For example, the orientation, or the margins, or the text in a
header or footer.

Apple blames Microsoft, Microsoft blames Apple. Neither of them will fix
it...

Word simply sends the document to the Apple print system, it is not involved
in the printing process.

When Word sends the document, it will send changes to layout caused by a
section break as a single print job. The Apple print subsystem should be
smart enough not to break the print job unless the section break changes the
paper sheet size. It's not...

If you remove the section breaks, it won't happen. If you NEED the section
breaks, you will need to use a PDF application to put the files together
afterward.

Sorry...

Following up on John's suggestion...

If you NEED the section
breaks, you will need to use a PDF application to put the files together
afterward.

You already have the "PDF application" you need :)

Open the first PDF in Apple's Preview program & expand the Drawer. Then
bring a Finder window up, navigate to where the other PDF is stored & drag
the file into the Drawer. Save the file or Save As to create a new PDF
containing all pages.

This is known problem and it has to do with how Acrobat (or the acrobat
engine in Macs) handle Microsoft's Page and section Breaks. They don't
period. Bee that way since acrobat 1.0.0.

Since PDF is an open source code anyone can create PDF application to
create PDF's So Office 2008 has a pdf Converter. That seems to solve
most of these problems except section breaks with page orientation switch.

The cure is open the first pdf in Acrobat go to edit menu and choose add
pages then choose the second pdf to at at the end. repeat until you get
everything joined and save as a separate. file.

In Office 2008 just choose Save As.... choose *PDF*, and it will create
one PDF with everything (except for the one exception), in one document.

The only way for this to be fixed is for MS not to be so secretive about
the code for section and Page breaks so That Adobe can fix the problem.

But as has been the case years, there is no love lost between Adobe and
Microsoft and they get along about as well as Klingons and Cardasians,
or Romuluons (StarTrek references)

Its an adobe Problem Adobe supplies the acrobat engine to Apple. Its
between Adobe and MS. when you use acrobat Acrobat uses its own engine
and the same problem appears in Acrobat as well.
