Trouble sending attachments

Hello: I've got version 12.0.0. and have a few problems. (1) Can't send attachments, even though I've been everywhere looking for help within Preferences, Settings, etc. etc. Everything seems set up to do so. When I try to send an email with an attachment like a document, it eventually goes to my "drafts" folder, and never gets sent. I go back a day or two later, and the same thing happens again when I try to send. I've sent pictures with no problems. I'm using Leopard if that helps.

(2) Not all mail I send goes to the "Sent" folder.......leaving me to believe it was never sent.

Can you send attachments with the same settings through another app
(like Mail for instance)??
That could be an issue with your SMTP server.

Just to follow up - I changed the appendage of the document to docx and now the document is being sent. Don't understand why .doc doesn't work however. I've just installed Microsoft Office 2008 and I'm on Leopard.

Use the same settings you use in Entourage to create a new account in
Mail and try to send e-mails through this new account in Mail,

That really looks like a problem with your SMTP server (the server you
use to send e-mails), though you could only confirm it by attemting to
send a .doc through another e-mail client like Mail,
