i rec'd a copy of office enterprise 2007 through a home use program but when
i try to install it, i get nothing. it doesn't automatically start the
installation process and when i go to start/run, there's nothing showing for
the cd (d:) drive, same thing when i open 'my computer.' i'm certain my d:
drive is ok as it will run other cd's i've put in. also, when i took the
installation cd to work and tried it, it started the installation process so
it appears to be my home computer. help!!!

p.s. i have windows xp, not vista!

Is the installation disk actually a CD or is it a DVD? If it is a DVD does
your computer have a DVD compatible device to read it or is your optical
device only a CD drive?

If it can be read on a drive at work and not at home, I would suspect that
either your drive is defective or the disk is a DVD and you only have a CD
drive.

thanks for the response LV. you're right - it is a dvd installation disk.
but i have dvd drive on my computer, and i tried it with just a regular ol'
dvd (movie) and it worked fine... so i tried the installation disk again and
got an error message stating "unable to detect your dvd." does this mean
something is wrong with my dvd drive or the disk?

Since you said that the disk worked in another computer, it appears that the
drive may be at fault.

Try to copy the entire contents of the DVD to a folder on the hard drive
using Windows Explorer. If it copies OK, try the installation from the hard
drive. If it doesn't copy, try the copy on another computer with a DVD
drive. If it copies, there is probably something wrong with the DVD drive
you have.

You can try deleting the drive from the listed hardware by using Device
Manager, reboot the computer to allow XP to refind and reinstall the DVD
player and try again.
