Trouble with attachments

S

Sue Donum

I've been trying to send a couple of video clips all day. Regardless of
whether I compress them first, combine them or not combine them in the same
email, etc., it begins to be sent and then, just as it's finished and the
send window closes, I get an error dialog about exceeding maximum size
(<http://img292.imageshack.us/my.php?image=datasizeexceedsmaximumezq8.png>).

I've tried quitting/restarting Entourage; rebooting, running TechTool, and
(as I said above) sending the clips separately, compressed, etc. Nothing
works.

Does this mean that I -- for the 1,000th time -- need to rebuild the
database? (Spending half my life tweaking this software is really getting
kinda old!) (Can you tell I'm having a particularly bad day??)

The error is coming from your ISP. What size are the individual files? I
can't see your image. Either the URL was mangled or their server is
overloaded. I find that the Mactopia interface really mangles URLS that are
even half way long. Use tiny ulrs whenever possible.

With your Comcast e-mail accounts, the maximum size of the email is 10MB,
which includes message header information, therefore, you should limit the
size of your actual attachments to 7MB.

They go on to say...

If you need to send files that are larger than 10MB, there may be solution
available to you: File Transfer Protocol (FTP). FTP was designed to transfer
files of all sizes over the Internet. You may also use your Personal Web
Pages to transfer files.
(Can you tell I'm having a particularly bad day??)

I had a bad day too. Recovering from a GoLive meltdown that hosed my
preferences folder. I tried to repair with Time Machine and that made it
even worse. <sigh>

Thank you Diane...yes, the files (both of my old neighborhood...brings a
smile and a tear...) both exceed 10 MB. Comcast sux, but telco isn't much
better (and a lot more costly for a fraction of the bandwidth).

I guess I'm stuck...don't know how to use ftp to send to a peer. :(

Anyway, I wish I could help you with your "meltdown"...you certainly deserve
a helping hand, given all that you do for others.

I spend half my life screwing around with Micro$oft *#&%*!, and you spend
half yours fixing other people's problems. (Something's wrong with this
picture!)

If your ISP offers a personal web page, you can simply click on the picture
to upload to your site. Just like you did with ImageShack.

I've never bothered with my Comcast personal page because I have the space
on the Entourage Help Page server. I would image they aren't hard to set up.

At least it wasn't an Entourage problem this time. :)

Half??? How about full time? I'm either answering questions or working on
the Page or Blog.

I'll have to check into it...I believe they do offer a personal page, but
haven't paid much attention to that "feature"-- much less attempted to set
one up.

Indeed. <grumbles something under her breath> ;)

My bad...sorry. (But you know what I was trying to say and where my heart
was....and, quite frankly, I don't know why you do it, or how you can afford
the time.)
