Trouble with linked Excel table

I have following trouble:
I have a database in Access 2002,
in this database I have linked table (it is in external file something.xls).
After I edit/add new record to the table using Access,
the file gets corrupt and neither Excel nor Access are able to read it.
Can anybody help me please?
I am trying to solve this problem for 3 days now without any success...
