Trouble with "track changes" randomly adding page breaks

I'm currently editing a 246-page, 117,000-word document (a novel). I have
"track changes" enabled. On multiple occasions while working in "Track
changes" mode, and viewing the document in my prefered viewing mode, "Print
Layout" the document has randomly added page breaks, with a blank page
following the page break. I've tried several times to be get rid of these
phantom page breaks, but they don't even show up as actual page breaks in
normal mode. When I go out of "Track changes" mode, the artificial page
breaks, and the blank pages, vanish.

My suspicion is that this is an undiscovered bug caused in part by the size
of the document; does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of these page
breaks while still working in "track changes" mode?

Thanks,

Greg

Do you know that they're specifically New Page markers? (Do you have
Show Non-Printing Characters on [Ctrl-Shift-8] so that you can see
whether there are many empty deleted paragraphs that appear when
Markup is showing? Do you use "Keep with Next" or "Keep Lines
Together"? Both of those settings can result in blank space (but those
would only come into play or not if they were in deleted paragraphs).

Thanks for the tip, Peter--turning on Show Non-Printing Characters was a good
idea.
Weirdly, there were *no* markers indicating what was generating the page
breaks. A little cutting-and-pasting into a separate document and repasting
back into the original seems to have taken care of the problem for now, but I
have this feeling that I'm not through with them yet.
