Troubles with excel

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have recently been having some trouble with my excel program. I am unable to sort data, even though I was able to sort the same data two weeks ago. My standard toolbar does not appear in the window, even though the box is checked. I have to uncheck it and recheck it in order to see it, but if I open another file it disappears again. Any suggestions?

Click the oblong button at the right end of the title bar to display the
docked toolbars.

BTW - the Sort command is also available from the Data menu.
