Troubleshoot Custom Labels

I've set up a separate Word docx (Using Word 2007 & XP Pro) to print
non-identical labels on Avery 2 Column X 8 Row labels. I've successfuly set
up Custom Labels and the Word docx with the Tables looks fine.
However when I go to print preview (and print) only the right hand column
shows/prints, and the right half of one line is chopped off and inserted
alone in the left hand column. This despite ample space to include the line
in it's proper place.
I've re-checked print margins, custom label size set-up etc., and have
ignored first row of labels as outside printable area of HP Laserjet 1010
printer.
Obviously some default is chopping off the right hand row and "losing" the
left hand column, but where should I look ?
Any suggestions most welcome. N.B. I'm very new to Office 2007 so please
don't dismiss the obvious!!

Is this a custom label that you have defined, or is it a pre-defined Avery
label e,g, J8162?
The printable areas is defined by the printer driver for a particular page
size. Most printer drivers are hopeless with custom page sizes.

Dear Mr. Mayor
This is a custom label I have defined, with a miniscule top margin of 1mm,
hence my skipping the top row.
The overall Page length is a little longer than standard A4, being 304mm,
however the width is exactly the same as A4 at 211mm, and it appears that it
is the horizontal /width that I am having the problem with ?

As I said, most printer drivers are hopeless with custom paper sizes and
Word will adopt a standard size it considers suitable. If this is an Avery
label does it have a number? Chances are that it, or an equivalent, will be
listed in the vast range of standard labels available.
If it is not available then try starting with Legal Paper size (21.59 x
35.56) which is the next larger standard size, and make up the difference
with margins
When you think you have it right, create a new document from the label tool.
