Really annoying problem. Any thoughts?
A fair-sized database (about 20 Meg or so), single user application
run from the user's computer. Access XP. It works fine on my test
computers (Windows 2000 and Windows XP with a patched-up version of
Office XP) as well as a most others I've tried.
On one computer, however, the user runs the app. When clicking a
certain button on form "my_form_name" (which normally opens a new
form), the application crashes with the following message: "Microsoft
Access has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
the inconvenience." Afterwards, when the user uses the application
again, the app simply closes when any button is clicked on form
"my_form_name".
Jet and MDAC are both up-to-date. Office XP service pack 1 and Windows
XP service pack 1 both appear installed. (However, Windows Update and
Office Update are both *not working* in that office, so I doubt that
any later patches have been applied. I've also tried all of MS's
troubleshooting tips for Windows Update, to no avail.)
I've also tried:
1) Loading the data file here and using it, in case the data file
that's being used is corrupt. The application still won't crash on my
machine.
2) uninstalling and reinstalling the application (which is an mde
file) on their machine; it still crashes.
3) De-compiling the .mdb file on my machine, sending it to them as is,
and having them try again. First time it works fine. Close it and
re-open it, and "MS Access has encountered a problem..." appears
again. Re-open it and the app continues closing unexpectedly once
again.
Can anyone suggest something here? I'm running out of ideas!! Why
could this be happening? What can I do about it? Argghh!!!
Best,
R/mi.
