Troubleshooting - Odd Text Within Document

I received an emailed document containing a table of mailing address labels. The font appeared to be in a greek type format. When I attempt to convert this to another font by selecting and changing fonts, the text turns into boxes. No matter what font I change this greek text to, it converts to a series of boxes or special characters. I don't want to re-type all 8 pages of text. Any ideas?
