Truly Zoom Out Columns--See all Tasks on One Screen

I build master projects with literally thousands of tasks ranging over very
long time spans. With Project, when you use the zoom feature, one is
compressing or expanding the timescale (left-right), but not changing the
number of tasks you see on a single page screen (up-down). In any other
Office application, when you zoom out, you see the entire document from
farther away, so although you lose detail, you can get see the "big picture."
I can use Page Preview and modify to fit all tasks on one page, but I'd like
to do the same in an active Gantt view--and truly zoom in and out.
Suggestions?

There's no zoom for the Tasks side, but you could create a different View
that has a Table that just shows ID, Name and maybe Notes? You can make this
view have 2 row height. So swapping views would be a pseudo zoom.

I'm confused here, Rod. Wouldn't making the row height 2 only
exacerbate the problem? Then he'd only see half the tasks at one time.

Thanks, but I still need to retain the Gantt bars, so I can't get the row
height that small. I've decreased the font, and decreased the Gantt bar
height, but can only get 28 rows on my screen. Any other ideas?

Navigating around with hundreds or thousands of tasks is practically
unmanageable. The fact that there is no wide-angle view of the entire
project plan is a real deficientcy.

I know it's costly, but I've seen companies get really large screens
(35") to display this and other software that need it.

Hi Cory,

Could you possibly filter the project to show summaries only? Or perhaps
different outline levels? At least this would give the overview without the
detail, which you woul'd be able to decipher anyhow.
