Truncated news posting

B

Barry Wainwright [MVP]

I've just seen a news posting that Entourage 2004 (11.2.1 051004) has
incorrectly truncated.

The full article's visible via google groups:

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Cheers,

Chris

There is a bug in the newsreader that causes Entourage to truncate a message
if a line in the message starts with 'period - space'. This is a bug that
existed long, long ago and was fixed for mail messages, but was either never
fixed for news or came back again in a later update.

MS are aware.

It sounds as though it could be that problem.

Good :)

Now I've used tcpdump to watch the nntp traffic, I'm not so sure. One of the
lines in the article starts with a space and ends with a dot and at that
point Entourage stops displaying any more content. The whole article is
ended in protocol as you might expect with a line containing a single dot.

I just checked in a test group - space - ... - period works fine. The
truncation only occurs when the line contains no other text than period and
whitespace.

That describes the problem exactly.

It does sound like a slightly different bug to the one you mentioned
earlier.
