I have an old Excel document with embedded macros. Microsoft Excel
2003 disables the macro.
I can set my security to medium, open the document, and tell it to run
the macros - and my worksheet works fine. But the Help tells me to
return the macro security to High after. If I do that, I need to go
through the whole process of opening it twice every time I need it.
It appears that the alternative is to find some way to trust myself.
So I followed the following instructions:
In Microsoft Windows XP, on the Windows Start menu, point to All
Programs, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Digital
Certificate for VBA Projects. In Microsoft Windows 2000, on the
Windows Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office
Tools, and then click Digital Certificate for VBA Projects.
I had a dialog asking for my certificate's name and put in a word. I
went back into my spreadsheet to tools/macros/security/trusted
publishers, and got my blank list. I don't see a way to add
anything.
I opened my VB editor from within my spreadsheet, selected
tools/digital signature, and added my Digital Certificate name.
I closed VB and tried again to tell the spreadsheet to trust it. Same
result.
I opened VB and saw that the signature was still there. It told me
"This CA Root certificate is not trusted. To enable trust, install
this certificate in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store."
I have no idea how to do that.
It also said "You have a private key that corresponds to this
certificate". That's interesting - maybe I should check my pockets.
So I have things at medium security for now. What did I do wrong?
