Trying to delete old/unwanted files

I just purchased a new computer that has Windows XP and I
have loaded the MS Office 2000 program. Everytime I try
to send old/unwanted files to the recycle bin I get an
error message that says:
"Cannot delete <filename>: It is being used by another
person or program. Close any programs that might be
using the file and try again."

There are no other programs open when I'm trying to do
this.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Post your question to a Windows XP newsgroup.

In Windows XP the message you received could be caused by a file in use by
Windows XP or by View in Windows Explorer. Or, for other reasons.

Try to be more specific as to the type of file.
