Trying to dictate in Word 2002

Shaun

I think this message has gotten buried, (partly because I took so long to
reply) so I'm just bumping it up:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am trying my best to use the dictation mode in Word 2002. I have the
language bar up, mic on, and volume turned up properly. As far as I can
tell, everything is functioning.

That is, except it does not type anything when I talk!

I've tried a couple of different programs: Outlook, here in the IE box, and
in Word. I'll shift back and forth to make sure the language bar is
"focused." It says "Listening..." but I think it is just ignoring me to make
me look foolish! (j/k)

Any advice? I've checked all the tutorials I could find, and nothing seems
to be fixing my problem.

Are you sure it can "hear" you? Click on Tools - Options - Advanced Speech.
Take a look at the Audio Input and Configure Microphone settings to make
sure it's really listening to your microphone rather than to Line In or
something else. If you click Configure Microphone, there's a wizard that
will tell you whether the computer actually hears you.

*My reply:
Yes, it definately hears me. I've even went through the training profile
session via the links you provide. Levels match my voice, and even plays
back how much I like papayas.

Yet, in neither this window nor in Word, there are no words appearing as I
speak. All the while, the balloon says "listneing." I've even tried
switching to voice commands, which it also ignores. I am not worried about
that as much as I am about being able to dictate.

Do you have any other suggestions?
