Trying to insert Horizontal Line closes Word 2004

I have OS X and Word 2004, and when I try to insert a horizontal line
from the Insert menu, Word quits, and the Error Reporting Script comes
up. Any suggestions? I think this happened to me before too with some
other option, but I don't remember what it was. Thanks for any help.

Which one of the standard troubleshooting tips are you talking about?
None of the options in that menu would correspond to my problem.

It could be almost any of them. The document might be corrupt or there
could be a problem with the Normal template or perhaps a third-party
(add-in) conflict. As Daiya said, when crashes are reproducible, it's
*usually* accounted for by one of another of the procedures discussed on the
troubleshooting pages she pointed you to. There's no way to know which one
it might be so you'll have to just start working through them.

Sorry it's not easier.

The one I would try first is "Quit Word, Rename your Normal Template, and
Restart."
