Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I am trying to install Office 2004 on my new iMac. Every time I run Setup assistant, it fails to complete. Downloading of program files will begin; however, when it gets to Microsoft Query (for Excel) the downloading stops and the setup assistant indicates that the install is finished. When I exit out of setup assistant, MS Office has not been installed.

Does your iMac have the Office 2004 Test Drive trial package? If so it needs
to be fully removed using the Remove Office utility before attempting to
install the full version. If that's the case see here:

Yes - I had removed Office Test Drive prior to installing my version. Any other thoughts?

I am trying to install Office 2004 on my new iMac. Every time I run Setup
assistant, it fails to complete. Downloading of program files will begin;
however, when it gets to Microsoft Query (for Excel) the downloading stops and
the setup assistant indicates that the install is finished. When I exit out of
setup assistant, MS Office has not been installed.

Run "Remove Office" again. Then log into a new User. Go to System
Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by
logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

Now, insert your install CD and run. Once you get installed, go back to your
regular user to open and set preferences. Office is installed in the root
application folder. Be sure to update after installing. Entourage will not
open your old Identity until you upgrade to at least 11.3.5.

What version of the OS are you running? If Leopard, have you upgraded?

Note: Restarting after installing will give you best results. Quitting all
applications when installing by log in/out with shift key down will also
result in a cleaner install.
