Trying to open a existing document

A

Andrew Davis

When I try to open a existing document I get "The File
example.doc is not available." Then when I close word it
tries to write to the normal.dot file every time. I have
tried to detect and repair reinstall and rename the
normal.dot file. I have also changed the file location of
the dot file....Still same thing.

Thank in Advance for any Help.

Hi Andrew,

Do you also have Norton AV? If so the first thing to do is disable the
"Office Plug-in" option found in Norton Options under the
Miscellaneous section.

If that doesn't resolve the problem then please provide us with the
version of Word you are using and the patches you have installed.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
