Trying to open a Word document i get a message saying "not a vali.

I've got Microsoft Office 2000 Premium loaded on my machine. When i try to
open a Word document i get a message saying "not a valid Win32 application".
I can open the document through an Explorer window, but obviously this isn't
really the same thing. Any advice as to how this might be resolved?
