trying to open file on cd. error mswrd 832cvn off 97

i have been given a cd with files saved on it some saved as rich text which
are no problem to open and other saved as a word document but my computer
will not open these. it comes with an error message "MSWRD832CNV". how can
i get around this problem. my microsoft office is 97.
