trying to publish a website using FTP to a unix server??

Hello,

I am not sure how to do this but the instructions I found are not working.
When I go to publish my site with Frontpage 2003 with the FTP setting. When I
put in the IP address of the domain in the FTP address text box and I check
off the passive option, then I click the OK button , nothing happens. The
window wont close. I know my settins are right because I use the same
settings with Dreamweaver.

Do I need to download extensions or something? I need to set this up for
somebody with frontpage. I do use a username and password to log on to the
web server which frontpage doesn't give me a place to do that. Maybe this
cant be done with frontpage? I dont know? can anybody give me any ideas?

Maybe I've always done things wrong, but publishing to the FTP settings never
works for me. I need to have FP extensions on the server and publish using
Frontpage. Get your hosting company to add the Frontpage Extensions and you
should be able to publish.

PS. How did you like Dreamweaver and why the swich over to Dreamweaver? I am
using FP and considering switching to something maybe Dreamweaver.

In my opinion, Frontpage is easy to use but its a basic web editor. You can
only do so much with Frontpage. Unless you do some heavy coding, frontpage
designed web pages are not that lavish or professional looking.

Dreamweaver is more of a web editor program for advanced web
designers/programmers. Dreamweaver creates simple and dynamic webpages that
look professional and more robust. You can also create database driven web
pages. You can do alot with dreamweaver when it comes to web designing and
programming such as .asp, .php, .jsp.

- FTP (a server w/o the FP SE)
