Trying to Send New Mail to IMAP Inbox - Wont Work

R

Richard M

I use Hotmail and Outlook Connector - share all the same contacts, email and
calendar. Everything works fine.

Bought an Iphone - Microsoft and Apple still hate each other!

iPhone wont sync with Hotmail unless I upgrade to Hotmail Plus or wait for
POP to be free in US. iPhone cant sync with Outlook either through iTunes or
MobileMe because they need a PST data file. Outlook Connector stores
everything in OST file.

Gmail and iPhone work great and have PUSH technology.

Want to send my Hotmail to gmail inbox - cant unless get Hotmail Plus or wait.

Set up an email acct in Outlook '03 for gmail as IMAP - easy. Now I want my
new Hotmail emails to go to Imap acct for gmail inbox. Went to Outlook tool
- email accts - change - tell it to send new email to New Outlook Data Folder
and I select pst folder for gmail. Then restart everything and it works, but
only once.

I think that the pst folder for gmail is a temp file and a new one gets
generated I dont know when or why?

Does anybody have any ideas?

By the Way the error I get is that I need to install the latest Outlook
Connector - which I have already done and it says that This type of operation
is not permitted for this type of client.

Does this mean that I need to be Hotmail Plus - but why would that matter -
this is not a POP issue? I am just delivering a new email into another
outlook email account that happens to be imap - which is syncing to gmail.

Someone please help?

Why would iphone require hotmail plus to work with it? The gmail pst is not
a temp file, but the connector is hardwired to use its own data file. if
iphone only works with pst files, not ost, then the problem is with apple,
not microsoft.

Have you rebooted? You might be ok just removing the connector from the
profile and adding the acct back, but I'd uninstall the connector, reboot,
then reinstall it before opening outlook.

Oh, so Plus lets you use pop, which will work with iphone. It won’t sync the
calendar with outlook though.

iPhone requires either POP or IMAP or PST.

Hotmail Plus is only way to get POP. Connector to Outlook makes OST, no PST.

My scraping at solutions was an attempt to send Hotmail to Outlook with
Connector, but to direct it to an IMAP Inbox - which is where it gets screwed
up.

Please dont play the Apple Vs MSFT game - every time I have tried to find a
solution, everybody on each side immediately jumps to the conclusion of why
the dark side, in this case apple, is at fault.

Please try to work with me - apple is apple - they have the better product -
they set the rules. I am trying to work with my favorite company MSFT to
make this work.

I am on your side.

Thanks

Unfortunately if the iphone won't sync with an ost (which is also the
Exchange server cache mode file type, so it seems very shortsighted that it
doesn't) there is not much you can do to make it work, other than use
hotmail plus. You should also check in the apple forums - someone there may
have figured out how to make it work as more there use outlook and iphone.
More of us use windows mobile or blackberries.

Considering Apple's attempt at making itunes work with outlook resulted in
numerous problems and required assistance from both Microsoft and an outlook
mvp programmer to get the problems fixed, its easy to understand why
everyone believes outlook/iphone sync problems are apple's fault.

Diane,

Please work with me. Believe me Ihave looked everywhere that you could
possibly imagine, including all possible apple resources, msft resources and
anything I can possibly find on the web.

IS there a reason why my IMAP idea isnt working or will not work?

Again - I created an IMAP email account in Outlook linked to an email I
created at gMail. Then I told Outlook to send all new email to the Outlook
file "Outlookimap.gmail.com-00000008.pst"

This works one time and then stops.

Can you help me figure this out?

Please - or ask someone else?
