trying to set up Office 2000 on Windows XP?

I am trying to install Office 2000 on Windows XP OS and am
having problems. I had to install a service pak, which I
did and when I continued to install it started to undo
what I had done.
I had uninstalled Office XP beforehand, could this part of
the problem?
Just in case you ask, I am trying to uninstall Office XP
and load Office 2000 so all of our computers in our school
lab have the same version.
