Turn automatic numbering off

I would like to know if there was a way to turn off automatic numbering so
that when you copy and paste the numbers do not go to the next number. For
example, if I have something that I need to paste and it is numbered 1 to 5,
when I copy and paste the numbers go to 6 to 10. This can be very annoying
when you don't want to go to the next number. I am using Word 2002.

After pasting 6-10, go back to 6, right-click, Bullets & Numbering,
Restart.
