Turn off Access security--no password provided

P

Pepe

I just received a new computer at work. We've upgraded from Office 2000 to
Office 2003. All of my data was automatically transferred to the new
computer including several Access databases. When I try to open any of them,
I'm prompted for a user name and password. I've played around with the
security settings in Access and long ago determined they weren't worth the
trouble so I don't ever use them. Even when I try to create a new database
I'm given the same prompt. I have no idea what the password is and I can't
get to Tools to turn off the security settings without it. Any ideas?
Holding shift down is to no avail.

Open Access (no database). Go Tools, Security, Workgroup Administrator and
see what workgroup (mdw) you are currently joined to by default.

Click on Join and rejoin the standard system.mdw that ships with Access.
(search for it first).

If you are already joined to that workgroup file, try renaming it in Windows
Explorer. Then start Access; it'll create a new system.mdw for you that
won't require a login.
