turn off auto coloring of close cell

I am working on a sheet where I color a range of cells gray. When I go to
the cell beneath these and enter info, that cell becomes gray too and I have
to manually change it back. Can I turn off this "feature"?

Tools/Options/Edit, uncheck the Extend list formats and formulas
checkbox.

Ahh Thanks JE! Too bad they lumped the useful one (formulas) in with the
annoying one (colors). Formulas can be erased with a quick press of the DEL
key, as opposed to formats, so I wouldn't mind if formulas were
automatically brought down.
