turn off autoformat in outlook 2007

I am trying to turn off auto formatting that replaces some fractions, like
1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 with a symbol so small that you can't read it, while
ignoring any other fraction (why someone thought this was a good idea, to
have different looking fractions in technical writing is beyond me).

Outlook help mentiosn menus that I don't have in Outlook, like the very
first one, "TOOLS". How do I turn this autoformatting off when I don't have
the menus that Microsoft tells me to use to turn it off?

I found the menus. I was actually writing an email, and had it open while I
was searching help, and so the menu bars changed when I had the email open,
another feature that I don't like. Context sensitive menus only help when
the context makes a difference. Whether I have an email open or not should
not make the overall Outlook menu disappear so that you can't change anything
outside of the specific email that you are currently editing. Yeah, I'm
complaining because I am annoyed with this.

thank you.

No the menu on the main Outlook window does NOT change - it's still there as
it was before. Just minimize the Compose window and Bingo! The main window
with the main menu appears!
The Compose Window doesn't NEED the same menu items as the main window....
