Turn off automatic recurrence

In calender view (month) I type in the day box I want and set up an
appointment. Then if I open this appointment to set the time duration (not
and all day activity) then save the appointment automatically create a
recurrence on that day for the year but I did not set any recurrence for the
task??? Also same happens if I right click the appointment to assign a
catagory to it, it then recurrence every day for that day for a year. Can not
find where to turn this off. I just switched to Office 2007 and did not have
this issue with Office 2003? Can someone please help.
