Turn OFF Formatting?

M

Mark

Hi,
I'm using WinXP Pro and Office XP Pro.
How can I make a template that automatically opens as the default
document in Word that has every single one of the automatic "help"
items turned off? I'd like a plain old document - no autoformatting,
no lightening bolts blinking, no clipboard flashing, no autonumbering
changing my entire page(s) whenever it decides to. I'd like to have
nothing at all turned on unless I select it. As it is, I have to go through
and deselect everything I don't want every time I open Word.

Thank you,
Mark

And note that the AutoFormat (and Tools | Options) settings are
application-wide; once you set them, they should remain in effect until you
change them. If you are setting them and the settings are not being saved,
then either you are starting Word with the /a switch, your Registry Data key
is damaged (see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm), or your
corporate IT department has instituted draconian measures to reset
everything to the default at startup. In the last case, you need to have a
talk with the net Nazis about proper operating procedures for Word.
