Turn off Markup view in Word 2003

M

Michael Kirn

When we print a lot of Word documents, we usually right click on them
in Windows Explorer, click print, and everything printed fine in Word
2000.

Now that we've upgraded to Word 2003, we get the Markup view printed.
Is there any way to turn that option off completely?

We've tried to go to Tools -> Options, the Track Changes tab, and
Never use Balloons, but the commented text still shows up as
highlighted on the printed document.

I've also tried to turn off the Markup view and save that file as the
Normal.dot file, and that didn't work either.

I've looked at some of the posts here already, and I've tried a lot of
stuff, but nothing seems to help.

Hi Michael,

I believe Tracy supplied the KB article containing a hotfix for this
issue, but if you saved a document as your Normal.dot then to preempt
your next visit to the newsgroups: only Word can create a 'true'
Normal.dot.

If you save a document or template as Normal.dot then the standard
AutoText entries are not added and AutoCorrect will not work quite
right. For example it may take the second opening of the AutoCorrect
dialog box to display all of the entries for the language currently in
use.

To allow Word to create a new Normal.dot, exit Word, locate Normal.dot
and rename it to OldNormal.dot. Word create a new one upon starting.
Locate Normal.dot and rename it to OldNormal.dot. Word will create a
new one upon starting.

Any customizations can be copied to the new Normal.dot via the
Organizer (Tools/Templates and Add-Ins) Once this is complete
OldNormal.dot can be discarded.
