Turn off snap to connection point?

In Word 2007>Insert>Shapes>New Drawing Canvas, I add two rectangles. I want
to draw an arrow from the first rectangle to the second, starting about 1/4
of the way down the side of the rectangle and ending about 1/4 of the way up
from the bottom of the second.

The arrow always attaches itself to the middle of the side of the first
rectangle and to the middle of the side of the second. How can I turn off
connection points or add new ones to shapes?

Thanks,

OK, I discovered by accident how to solve this problem.

Go Align>Grid Settings, and then either
(1) Turn ON "Display Gridlines on Screen" and turn OFF "Snap objects to grid
when grid is not displayed",
or (2) turn OFF "Display Gridlines on Screen" and turn ON "Snap objects to
grid..."

Then hold down <Alt> as you draw the arrow. The arrow will begin at the
middle of the side of the first rectangle, but you can put the arrow head
anywhere you like. Keep holding down <Alt> and grab the beginning of the
arrow. You'll find you can now move it wherever you want it.

I guess this must be intuitive to somebody.
