I have all the sounds turned off in 2008 version 12.1.5; OSX 10.5.6 fully
updated. I keep getting the new mail sound. I have tried deleting office
and reinstalling; no go.
Did you turn them off under Entourage Preferences --> Notifications? Are
they still unchecked and still working?
If yes, then under Entourage in the menu bar, select Switch Identity and
create a new test Identity. Enter one of your accounts and set under Options
to Leave on server for the test. Turn off sounds in preferences and download
some messages. Does it work in the new Identity? If yes, then it's your
database. You need to rebuild.
If no, then Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts.
Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test
Entourage first in a new blank Identity. If it works in the new blank
Identity and a new user then one last test.
In your regular User, drag your Identity folder to Shared folder. Switch
Identities and drag (it actually copies) your Identity to the Microsoft
User Data folder --> Office 2008 Identities folder. Open Entourage in your
old Identity. If the sounds are still broken, then it's your Identity. If
the sounds work correctly, then it's not your database it's your User's
folder.
