Turn off Template Prompt!!

I created a document from a template. The template included form fields, and
every time documents created from that tmeplate are opened, the user is
prompted to "type source information." This prompt comes up twice (for both
places where the form field is) when the doc is opened and when you try to go
to Print Preview.

Anyway, I decided I no longer want these form fields in my new document. I
deleted the fields, searched the doc for any more fields and found none.
Still, the prompt "type source information" comes up every time I open the
doc or try to go to print preview.

Is there any way to turn this prompt off?? I have deleted the fields. I do
not know what to do. Please help if you can!!

Form fields don't usually prompt this way. Perhaps you have an ASK or FILLIN
field?

I really didn't know there was much of a difference. Yes, I think it is
either an ASK or FILLIN field. In any case, I still deleted the field, and
the prompt is still there. Thanks!

Go to Tools | Macro | Macros and see if there is an AutoOpen macro listed.

Amazing! No macros at all? You must have been very diligent at resisting
add-ins. <g>

Okay. Let's try another way. Press Alt+F9 so that field codes are displayed.
Then set the browse object to Browse by Field (using the Select Browse
Object button at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar) and, starting at the
top of the document, click the down arrows (Next Field) to see if you can
find any more ASK or FILLIN fields remaining in the document.

I know, I don't get it! Part of the problem is that I did not create this
original template. Not sure what they did.

I followed your instructions, and it doesn't point me to any fields except
for hyperlinks. It appears that the original 2 fields that initiated the
prompt were Fill-In fields. Since I deleted those, it's not picking up
anything else even though the prompt still comes up.

I may just have to scrap this... If you have any more ideas, though, I
certainly welcome it! Thank you so far...

Thank you for figuring this one out. Here was the solution Suzanne sent:

It took me a while to figure this one out, but you would have found the
problem if you had set this template up the way it should be set up. Instead
of inserting a section break at the end of the first page, you should use the
"Different first page" setting for headers and footers (Layout tab of Page
Setup) and put your "Continued" header in the primary Header, leaving the
First Page Header blank. You'll need to put the footer text in both the
Footer and the First Page Footer.

If you had done this, you would have seen that there is a residual FILLIN
field in the First Page Footer. Whenever an additional header and footer are
created (by enabling "Different first page" or "Different odd and even"),
Word remembers the content of that header and footer even when they are
disabled. The message box was being triggered by the FILLIN field in the
suppressed First Page Footer. So enable "Different first page" and delete it,
and you should be home free!
