turning excel doc that have images into pdf - HUGE FILES, why?

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Hi there:

use excel version 12.0 for Macs, to create estimate forms and i'm finding that everytime i save the file as a PDF, the document size is 10MB or higher. There are 2 images files in the document and i know that's what causing the problem, however i don't know how to fix it. Our client who uses the exact same file but an older version of excel (v. 10), does not have this problem. His documents are always way under 1mb. Is there something in preferences i need to change?
