turning FP homepage into "index.html"

My service provider wants that extra l...index.html
rather than index.htm. I tried to get FP to see things
my way by changing the name in the "Web site" folder, but
index.htm would not comply.

After I closed the site (the C: drive version) I forced
the ".html" renaming in Windows Explorer, and that
worked. However, when I brought the index.html file up
in FP it created a new file called index.htm.

Anything you can tell me, thanks!

First of all, you should NEVER rename files that are part of your web
outside of FP. FP keeps track of files internally and this could really
screw things up (I know from experience!).

Second, my FP (2002) lets me rename .htm to .html - with lots of warnings to
be sure but it works. What version do you have?

If you are running FP on a UNIX server instead of WINDOWS server then
I believe that your homepage will have to be renamed INDEX.HTM. This
is what happened to me when I switched from CI HOST.COM to
VALUEWEB.COM. VALUEWEB.COM runs UNIX servers.

I solved the problem by renaming my homepage INDEX.HTM. However, I
had to RELINK every page that had a hyperlink or menu selection from
my homepage. I had about twenty pages that were affected, and this
took about ten minutes.

I believe this is what your webhosting company is asking you to do.
Sometimes you get one of the outsourced services from India and they
don't know how to explain things properly.
