Turning off email links with Outlook under Firefox

Good morning,

I'm using Windows XP and Firefox as my webbrowser.

Now, from time to time I accidently click on email links
(usually when one cannot see that the link is referring to
an email). Then Outlook is opening and asking for my password.
I do not use Outlook for ages anymore and find it very annoying
of Outlook.

How can I turn off this automatic linking of email on web sites
to Outlook?

Change your default email program in Internet Options, Programs. You
evidently have Outlook selected as your default.

Also change it in Firefox, Options, Applications. You still need to change it
in Internet Options too.

I've looked up the settings as you are suggesting. Unfortunately there
are only
three options given as default email program:

- Microsoft Outlook
- Outlook Express
- Windows Live Mail.

I do not want to use any of these programs as default email program.
In fact, I do not need any default email program.

But there is no option for no email program. I just want to unlink any
email
on web sites to Outlook!

I'd just recommend either not clicking on them OR just closing whatever
opens. However...

Regedit
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command

Delete the information in that key and then don't pick a default email app
when you accidentally click a mailto link and it *might* just work. I can't
guarantee it as I have never actually tried it. As always, be aware of the
dangers and know if they are worth the benefits before editing the registry.

Uninstall outlook. Every time an office update is installed it resets
outlook as default.
