Turning off hyperlink

I've just upgraded to Office 2004 and learning the new quirks. I used
to be able to turn off the hyperlinking in my old Office X. Where will
I find that in 2004? It's not just one hyperlink I need to deactivate -
it's several hundred in a column.

Neither XLv.X nor XL04 provide a way to turn off automatic hyperlinks.
