Turning off local caching?

I want to work with OneNote files on a super fast network drive, and
syncing just gets in the way, i.e. it slows the work flow down
dramatically. Can I turn off local caching?

Note that this is not the same as turning off autmatic syncing which
then requires manual syncs - even worse. I just want to work with the
notebook as if it were on a local disk: no syncing wanted!

There is no way to turn off the caching mechanism. However, you can
always hit F9 to force all your notebooks to sync immediately.

You also can bump up the sync interval with a registry setting. Go to
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options\Save and create a
DWORD value called FolderPollInterval. Set the value to how long you
want OneNote to wait between syncs, in seconds. Note that this will
affect all UNC notebooks, and will increase the load on the server where
the notebooks are hosted. IOW, use at your own risk.

Thanks, Ilya, for your clarification and for your suggestions.

Bah, that's one of the areas were Windows lacks behind UNIX OSs where
data in the network can be accessed just like data stored locally. In
some ways, Windows still looks like a toy to me.
