Turning off "Provide feedback with sound" Word 2008 SR2

I've tried numerous times to turn of the "Provide feedback with sound"
option in Word 2008 Service Release 2, but it comes back on after I
restart Word.

I've been turning this feature off by going to
Preferences==>General==>Uncheck the "Provide feedback with sound"
option.

I'm using a 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Mac Pro running OS 10.5.7. I using Word
12.2.0.

Any idea why this option keeps turning itself back on and how I might
correct this problem?

Thanks,

Ed

This won't help you problem. But I have the opposite problem. I never
have been able for the sounds to lat more then two or three openings and
closing of Word or Excel. I actually prefer the sounds.

Do you have it turned on in any other Office apps? It's a universal Office
preference. Launch one of the other apps, turn it off as you've been doing
in Word & you should find that its checkbox in Word's prefs will be cleared.

Don't ask me to explain why this is, it just seems to work :)
