Turning off sounds

Since I subscribed to newsgroups using Entourage, it plays a "notification
sound" each time a message downloads. When I'm downloading hundreds of
headers, the sounds continues incessantly. I've tried to turn it off both
through the Entourage ---> Preferences ---> Notifications route and through
Office 2004, but still the sound continues until I've turned off the speaker
on my Mac in self defense!

Anyone have any ideas how to stop the sounds?

Check your rules to see if one is firing the sound. Don't forget to check
your MLM rules too.
