Turning on Preview of templates

I am using Word 97 in XP Home.

When I open New and look at my available templates, the "Preview" section is
blank ("Preview not available"). How do I turn preview on for my customized
templates (not normal.dot)?

I read the article on
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/PreviewImage.htm which says I should
" Choose Properties on the File menu and click the Summary tab. Then place a
checkmark next to Save Preview Picture ".

However when I do that I see that it will save it to the Normal.dot which I
obviously do not want to do.

Open your specific document template, go to File | Properties, and check the
box. But you really don't want to do this. It increases file size
inordinately (not only for the template but for every document based on it
unless you clear the check box in that document), and the advantage gained
is slim. If you use the Preview view in File Open, you'll see that documents
saved without a preview picture actually have a much more usable preview
(full size and scrollable) than the ones saved with a preview picture
(unless there are large graphic or design elements on the first page).
