Turning Overtype off

F

The help files state that overtype can be turned off by tools, Options, Edit
tab, uncheck overtype or double click overtype in status bar. I am having
problems with text moving that I associate with overtype. Overtype is
already unchecked and double clicking overtype in the status bar doesn't
work. What is going on here?

Would you explain exactly what happens when you select Overtype (either by
going through Tools, Otpions or double-clicking the Overtype button inthe
Status Bar) please.

When I double click OVR in status bar, it seems to be frozen. When I
checked Tool, Options, Edit tab, etc... I found it to be already unchecked.
Thank you.

Sorry but this still doesn't help me. What does this mean, " I am having
problems with text moving that I associate with overtype."? Overtype is a
setting that has nothing to do with associations. It is either on or off. It
isn't document or template dependent: it is a state of operation.

When I click OVR in the status bar, it does not take me out of Overtype mode.
While I am typing, the text moves in overtype mode, not in normal type mode.
Hope this helps.

Can you confirm that you are double-clicking the button and that it toggles
state between greyed out and emboldened when you do it? If it doesn't, does
the button toggle states when you use Tools, Options to change modes?

There are two modes:

Overtype - where you overtype the character after the cursor with the new
character - and the text does *not* move.

Insert - where the character you type is inserted at the cursor position and
all text to the right is moved to make space

Are you confusing the two?
