How can i get started with access, perferable for little or no money? I
would like to set up a data base for dallas, tx. Fields would be zip code,
street, street number (i.e. a street address) and the result would be the
mapsco grid number. I have asked mapsco if something like this exists, and
got no reply. So, I assume it does not exist, so, I would like to build my
own. I'm fair to good with excell, and the old Dbase III. Can someone
suggest some free litualture on access to get me started?

All I think I should say here is I am doing this for free, for a non-profit
charity, and I think I should omit specific names.

Can anyone recommend some good tutorial books?

I've gotten street lists from city or county property-tax offices; these may
be in one of the mapping software programs such as GIS Shapefiles, but these
files are actually based on dBase format files which can be read by Access.

The taxing authority may well charge you for the data (Ada County in Idaho
charged $200 if I recall correctly) and impose restrictions ("not for use as a
mailing list, see Idaho Code 9-348").

Hey all,

thanks very much for the info. I will check these out ASAP. I also read
teh post just below this one, title "Subject: Best Access 2003 Book". I will
keep you posted on the prograss. I foresee this takings several weeks.
